Wildflowers of Chisholm Trail

Every spring, Texas native wildflowers bloom along Plano’s Chisholm Trail. In this painting, you can see Queen Anne’s Lace, Upright Prairie Coneflowers, and Firewheel flowers. The model for this painting is Vanessa Alvarez, posing with her bicycle and a basket of flowers.

I asked Vanessa to model for this portrait because she has striking features, and I thought she would make a great portrait model. We did a photo shoot first, riding our bikes along Chisholm Trail to take some source photos, which I used as references in the portrait.

This painting won 1st place in the City of Plano’s 2023 Parks & Recreation Department Art Contest, Where Community Grows - Adult category.
